KunstWelten offers an impressive tour through European art history: welcomed by one of the most important medieval collections in Germany with unique altarpieces and sculptures, visitors travel to the Italian Baroque era and the heyday of Dutch painting.
At the beginning of the tour through the KunstWelten, the focus is initially on the Lower Saxony area - with its important altars from the International Gothic period around 1400, including the Barefoot Altar from Göttingen and the famous Golden Table, which was originally installed in St. Michael's Church in Lüneburg.
Artists such as Lucas Cranach and Tilman Riemenschneider then introduce visitors to the high art of the German Renaissance, followed by the great Italian masters Sandro Botticelli and Jacopo Pontormo. The newly designed rooms combine the classical architecture of the listed museum building with a modern color concept. Walls in blue, pink or eggplant and an innovative illuminated ceiling, which creates a perfect illusion of daylight, give the works a completely new radiance.
