The Great Silk Road

What does music mean to us? What does it do to us? We listen to music and cry, we laugh, we fall in love. It connects people across borders and touches our hearts.

This is what the project "The Great Silk Road" is all about. It creates a dialog between cultures and brings us into conversation, builds bridges and removes fear of contact.

With its stories and music ranging from Monteverdi, Dufay and Merula to Byzantine composers, The Great Silk Road spans a musical arc between the centers of political activity along what was once the most important trade route, linking Venice with Istanbul, Athens with Shamachi and Isfahan.

In times of crisis and cultural conflict, there is an urgent need to develop historical awareness, to read history against the grain and to look for ways of understanding each other. Because if we reflect on the common origins and the diverse lines of development of our musical heritage, we can also inspire people of the present to listen to each other, discover what we have in common and accept differences.

This gave rise to the idea of a musical "Silk Road", a project that explores and connects music from both cultures. Consisting of internationally renowned artists, the Ensemble Anima Shirvani , together with the Forum Vocale Rhein-Sieg e. V. , is dedicated to the authentic interpretation of 16th and 17th century music at the highest level. With this project, we would also like to promote mutual understanding between Western and Eastern cultural societies and break down existing dogmas.

Price information:

The admission price is €19 per person, reduced €11 (up to 18 years, students with appropriate proof), €42 family ticket (2 adults plus up to 3 young people/students), children up to 12 years free of charge. Tickets can be purchased online in advance. Remaining tickets are available at the Box Office.
