Andrei Platonov's characters must use all their strength to bring about a happy future: To the incessant beat of electronic music, they build the house for a liberated humanity. But a crisis of meaning, the pressure to be productive and isolation undermine the communist utopia - until the orphan Nastya appears in their midst. Can she help them overcome their collective depression?
In this musical-theatrical adaptation of Platonov's novel, contemporary questions about achievement and care are interwoven with the historical context of the early Soviet Union. Die Baugrube is a melodic search for hope and tenderness between puppetry, spoken theater and opera, because "the sky is so wide that friendship is necessary for freedom."
