An entrepreneur and two conceptual artists plan a somewhat different kind of event in Deppendorf. A disdainful publicity stunt? Instrumentalization? Or the captivating power of art? In any case, the controversial idea creates meaning and community. But the fun stops somewhere...

In 2012, Swiss artists Frank and Patrik Riklin meticulously planned and documented their joint art project "Saving Flies in Deppendorf" with Bielefeld insecticide manufacturer Hans-Dietrich Reckhaus, with the intention of making a film themselves. Nothing came of it, and now the material has been lying idle for ten years.

The filmmakers Marcelo Busse and Julia Suermondt were amazed and fascinated by the footage - and recognized its potential to become something completely different from a self-portrayal. Their idea was to portray the story in all its ambivalence, absurdity and humanity, without judging or taking sides.
