It is a gruesome story of traumatization and the power of the irrational: a long time ago, Azucena witnessed her mother being condemned as a witch and burned at the stake. Dying, her mother made her promise to avenge her. In order to fulfill the incriminating oath, Azucena wanted to burn the infant child of the count responsible as well. However, she threw her biological son into the fire and raised the other person's child as her own. Now the count's son, who grew up as the son of a "witch", and his powerful brother meet because they are in love with the same woman - and the pained cries for revenge still hang in the air.
