The poet's almost profound work (although the Kellertheater's production adds a number of light-hearted touches) is considered world literature.

Many passages speak directly to our hearts. Who will ever forget the encounter with the fox when he says "One only sees well with the heart, the essential is invisible to the eyes" and "You are responsible all your life for what you have made familiar to yourself".

Perhaps this is the central message: trust and truthfulness. It is not surprising that the Little Prince, the fox and the other figures are repeatedly used as parables to sharpen our perceptions.

Presumably, we usually only look at the surface of things and Antoine de Saint Exupéry wants to draw our attention to the essentials. In any case, we begin to suspect that The Little Prince is not just entertaining and edifying.
