Cedric Errol grows up in poor circumstances in New York. His father died years ago and his best friends are a shoeshine boy, an apple woman and a grocer, a bitter enemy of the "English aristocratic snobs". One day, Cedric receives the news that he is the sole heir to a family of earls and therefore a lord. He is therefore told to go to England, where a disgruntled, strict grandfather awaits him. But Cedric quickly manages to soften his grandfather's mood with his honest and cheerful manner. Everything seems to be going well when a woman turns up claiming that her strange son is the true heir. But with the help of his friends, who travel all the way from New York, he manages to expose the fraud, so that nothing stands in the way of a happy ending.
