A luxury resort in Mexico. While the rich and famous loll on their loungers, a beached blue whale explodes right in front of the hotel. The stench of the giant spreads across the entire property and does not spare guests and staff. The couple trying to get their marital crisis under control. The narcoleptic cleaning lady who nobody pays any attention to. Or the aging employee who has spent his whole life in the hotel and is now disappearing into oblivion. WithThe Scent of the Whale(Le parfum de la baleine), the Canadian Paul Ruban has achieved a surprise success. Macabre and absurdly funny, the author, screenwriter and translator tells a White Lotus-like story of the unease that spreads in an oversaturated microcosm. Salon host Mariel Reichard asks where this will lead. The German passages will be read by Nikolai Gemel from Schauspiel Hannover.
