One of the most spectacular and dangerous GDR escape stories begins with the "Moscow-Paris Express" - the train to freedom. In January 1964, East Berliner Karl-Heinz Richter and seven schoolmates planned to flee the GDR. Over a period of three weeks, the pupils entered the track bed behind Friedrichstraße station one after the other and jumped from a hiding place onto an approaching night train to get from East to West Berlin. However, Karl-Heinz Richter stumbled and did not manage to reach the train. His escape failed and he was left behind. Contemporary witness Karl-Heinz Richter takes you back to the places of his dramatic escape story and his youth.
