Master of Persian music comes to Cologne
Davood Azad fills philharmonic concert halls in his home country with 10,000 listeners -
Spiritual concert evening in the Lutherkirche with additional guest musicians and dancers
Davood Azad speaks through his music. The Persian master on the stringed instrument tar, singer and player of other instruments such as oud, daf, rabab, setar and tanbur performs both classical Persian music and Azerbaijani folk music. In his home country, he fills philharmonic concert halls with 10,000 seats, is represented on streaming platforms and also performs his interpretation of Persian music in Australia, East Asia, the USA and numerous European countries.
What connects everything: The deeply spiritual belief in unity, harmony and peaceful coexistence between all nations. To make this vision audible in the truest sense of the word, Azad accepted the invitation of Blausalz Gourmet GmbH from Mechernich-Satzvey. Like the proverbial salt in the soup, the aim is to provide listeners with food and tangible enrichment, but for the soul and spirit. The physical well-being is also taken into account, and the audience can expect a rehearsal by Blausalz, among others.
Other top-class musicians have also been announced: Amin Haydari will play the oud, a short-necked lute, while Mehrdad Masoudi will show off his skills on the kamanche, a spiked violin. Mostafa Narimani will provide the rhythmic accompaniment on the Daf frame drum. Dancers Özlem and Shahrazad will enchant the audience with the Darwish dance "Sama".
The name of the concert is "CHODA", a Persian term for God. The first part of the word "CHOD" means "self". The ending "A" is to be understood as an invitation: "Come!" In this ending "A" there is a reference to what is not yet. To what is yet to come. The concert should therefore also lead the audience to itself. "CHODA" can therefore be translated as an invitation: "Come to yourself!" or "Come and become aware of yourself!"
Azad's music is inspired, among others, by the Persian scholar and Sufi poet Jalal ad-Din Rumi (1207-1273), whose deep understanding of creation continues to inspire today and whose universal truths and wisdom build a bridge through time and space. Davood Azad brings this to life for his audience through his high art of improvisation and leads to inner contemplation in our hectic times.
