Das Schloss

In the organizer's words:

A man named K. arrives in a wintry county after a long journey and introduces himself as the appointed surveyor. Opposite him is a village community that appears to be highly bureaucratically organized and in which the information channels are precisely documented but always remain opaque. In order to legitimize his status as a surveyor, K. seeks out those responsible, but is only ever put off, put off, confused or passed on to another authority.

K. increasingly becomes an errant, much like the locals, who drift apathetically through the arbitrary order of things, of which no one knows who actually agreed on it and when.

Kafka's vision of a thoroughly corrupt society is a poetically dark anticipation of contemporary dictatorial regimes. Maxim Didenko, who emigrated from Russia in 2022 and now lives and works in Germany, is staging the play for the first time at the Staatsschauspiel Dresden.
