The journey. A journey through the Sahara
In the heart of the Sahara lies a huge volcanic massif full of gold and stories of hermits, robbers and Tuareg warriors. As is often the case with his books, it was an image that triggered Wolfgang Büscher's desire to go there: A hermitage far from the world on a high plateau, built by a desert saint who many thought was mad and who became a friend of the Tuareg. There he was close to heaven, and when he stepped out of his door, he saw a garden of yellow mountains.
A captivating travel story from the deserts and mountains of Ahaggar - and about Charles de Foucauld, the man who built his house there in the Hoggar Mountains.
Wolfgang Büscher became famous in 2003 with his book "Berlin-Moscow. Eine Reise zu Fuß" ("Berlin-Moscow. A Journey on Foot"), which sold hundreds of thousands of copies and has been translated many times over, established German-language travel literature anew at the time. The books about his travels through Germany, America, Jerusalem and most recently to his home in Hesse were also successful and received a great deal of attention.
