Curator's View

In the organizer's words:

Daria Dittmeyer-Hössl from our curatorial team takes you on a fascinating tour through the exhibition In Her Hands. Here you will discover the expansive works of the extraordinary artists Sonja Ferlov Mancoba, Maria Martins and Isabelle Waldberg in a completely new exhibition design. Between Paris, Copenhagen and New York, Mancoba, Martins and Waldberg were part of the international art scene and developed the surrealist visual language innovatively, unconventionally and resolutely.Their sculptures show semi-abstract creatures, warrior figures and masks made of clay and plaster and organic objects inspired by Afro-Brazilian myths. The sculptural ensembles allow viewers to immerse themselves directly in the visual worlds of the artists. Surprising references to the aesthetics of contemporary forms in pop culture, design and film can be discovered.
