Crow Baby, the collaboration between South African musicians Jean-Louise (JL) Parker and Cheri, came about unexpectedly and combines the spirit of punk with the ingenuity of art-pop. The duo, who originally met on tour, rediscovered their musical partnership during the pandemic in Berlin and experimented with instruments beyond the norm. Their debut album "Get Yourself Together" is characterized by cheeky lyrics, mischievous energy and emotional depth. Tracks like "Run" and "Pity Party" juxtapose vulnerability and raw resilience, reflecting the tensions of modern life. With influences like Deerhoof, the album navigates themes of human struggle, connection and fleeting joy. It's a plea to embrace life's imperfections and challenge the listener to break free and find meaning amidst the chaos.
