Cooperativa Maura Morales // Shame

Shame has many faces. It manifests itself as body shame, sexual shame, social shame. And in a thousand other facets. One thing is certain: the feeling of shame is increasing in our society of self-expression. Forced by silence. Secrecy. And judging. In the setting of the theater, shame once again plays a special role. After all, everything here is based on an agreed and pleasurable game of looking at and being looked at. This is exactly where SHAME comes in - the new production by Cooperativa Maura Morales. It uses acting, dance, video and live sampling to create a sharply cut anatomy of shame-shock. Four dancers and a musician dissect the stories of their shame injuries. They tell of the shaming to which the female body in particular is subjected. About the feeling of wanting to sink into the ground under judgmental glances. Of the desire to escape vulnerable visibility. All in the light of the stage. In protective openness.
