Conic Rose: Genres as a swarm

Hypnotic city night trips and light-flooded places of longing. A journey into no man's land between dream and reality, hope and disillusionment, everyday life and escape. The music of Conic Rose is difficult to reduce to a conventional formula. Depending on your point of view, it can be described as indie pop, jazz, ambient or electronica, although indie jazz is perhaps more accurate.

If you haven't heard her debut album "Heller Tag" (2023) yet, you've missed out and should definitely catch up. The album is certainly more than the sum of its parts: it delves into the genres, collects, merges, breaks down and starts all over again without getting lost anywhere. The band's cascades of sound sound focused as a result, although many of the pieces have only been recorded and produced once out of improvisation. For trumpeter Konstantin Döben and pianist/keyboardist Johannes Arzberger as well as guitarist Bertram Burkert, bassist Franziska Aller and drummer Silvan Strauss, barrier-free openness is the formula that holds everything together.

Starting with the hoarse tone of the trumpet, embedded in floating soundscapes of electric and acoustic guitar, keyboards, bass and drums that reveal influences of J.S. Bach, Krautrock, Thom Yorke or Bonobo, "Heller Tag" develops a music that finds its way both aimlessly and unswervingly. The recipe lies in the perfect mixture of intuitive calculation and calculated intuition. Conic Rose's desire for her own sound is palpable at every moment. It translates into images whose haunting casualness settles on the listener's inner canvas and lives on.

Conic Rose is young, urban and incredibly open jazz that captivates the audience from the very first moment with its joy of experimentation and graceful soundscapes. That's how it was at the last concert at the Gretchen and that's how it will be again. Be sure to go.
