Social justice and inclusion are major social challenges. But what does this mean in concrete terms? How can we empower people in difficult life situations and enable them to truly participate?

At the second Comuneo.talk, we want to talk about exactly that - with Pastor Thomas Slesazeck, the theological managing director of Diakonisches Werk - Stadtmission Dresden gGmbH (Diakonie Dresden). Diakonie Dresden is committed to helping people who need support with numerous facilities and programs: be it in elderly care, child and youth welfare, help for people with disabilities, social work or emergency housing assistance.

Diakonie Dresden is managed by a dual leadership team. Alongside Sven Marschel, the commercial director, Thomas Slesazeck is responsible for the diaconal profile, cooperation with church district committees, Diakonie Sachsen and municipal partners, as well as various charitable volunteering projects in the city.

Born and raised in Saxony, Thomas Slesazeck became involved in social issues at an early age. After studying theology in Leipzig and elsewhere, he worked for many years as a parish pastor and worked closely with social welfare organizations. His concern: To represent the diverse areas of work of Diakonie Dresden on an equal footing and to further strengthen cooperation between full-time staff and volunteers.

What will this evening be about?

• What challenges are there for inclusion and social participation in Dresden?
• How can urban society contribute to promoting social justice?
• What role does the Diakonie-Stadtmission Dresden play in this?
