Clara Vetter Trio – feat. Ronny Graupe (Gitarre)

Between jazz, impressionism and new music, the pianist and winner of the BW Jazz Prize, Clara Vetter, weaves a sound spectrum with delicate threads that has not been described as "Debussy crashes into Stockhausen" for nothing.

In a trio with Mario Angelov (b) and Lucas Klein (dr), Clara Vetter seeks the connection between her diverse inspirations. Another guest is guitarist Ronny Graupe - one of the most trend-setting personalities on the German jazz scene at the moment. Graupe and Vetter first met as lecturer and student. This encounter turned into a collaboration, which continued in joint concerts with Lucia Cadotsch, Oliver Steidle and Phil Donkin, among others.

Graupe and Vetter share an individual harmonic and melodic language that goes hand in hand with a synesthesia-like audio-visual connection - an ability that Vetter discovered in himself during the pandemic: By recording the visual impulses she experienced while playing the piano, Vetter was able to reflect on her intuitive thought processes.

Vetter's impulse drawings resembled constellations, so that the pianist found an inspired new path for her new program "Fabulae": For "Fabulae", she translated existing star constellations into new compositions, whereby personal associations and mythological contexts also played a role. Initial visual sketches are musically rotated, turned, mirrored and/or deformed until the character of the respective constellation is worked out - a working method not unlike that of an illustrator. It is continued in the performance, where the forms seen are interpreted and improvised. In the quartet, this process is strengthened by the highly inspiring influence of Graupe, Angelov and Klein, which further shapes the music and allows its essence to emerge ever more clearly.
