When Christine Thürmer was born in 1967, there was nothing to suggest that she would one day become the most hiked woman in the world.
Although she was top of her class at school, she was a complete loser at sport. As a result, she first embarks on a stellar career as a manager before realizing after an unexpected layoff and the death of a friend that time - and not money - is the most important resource in life.
Completely untrained, she hikes 4,277 kilometers from Mexico to Canada on the Pacific Crest Trail - despite having flat feet, knock-knees and being overweight! And that's just the beginning: since then, she has covered 60,000 kilometers on foot and crossed the USA and Europe three times each.
Why does she prefer to prepare for her tours on the computer rather than in the gym? Why doesn't she wear underpants on the road but has a bin bag with her? And what is it about this life that makes her so damn happy? When viewers ask her questions live, she doesn't shy away from any answers and even presents her weirdest hiking outfit. With lots of funny, exciting and thought-provoking anecdotes, the three-time bestselling author describes her journey from couch potato to long-distance hiker and her everyday outdoor life as a solo female traveler. There are also amazing practical tips, tour ideas from Brandenburg to Patagonia and a demonstration of her minimalist equipment.
A good-humored show without campfire romance and outdoor clichés for anyone who wants to set off on their own or is simply interested in life on the move.
VITA:
Christine Thürmer, born in Forchheim in 1967, made a career as a manager after completing her studies. After an involuntary career break, she quit her job for good in 2007 and has since devoted herself exclusively to long-distance hiking, cycling and canoeing. With 60,000 kilometers on foot, she is probably the most hiked woman in the world and is known among outdoor fans as the "German Tourist". She has walked through both the USA and Europe three times and has also cycled 30,000 kilometers and paddled 6,500 kilometers in between. She was awarded the Triple Crown Award, the ITB Book Award 2017 and 2021 and the first prize at Discovery Days 2019 for the best presentation. Her books "Laufen. Eat. Sleep." about the US trails, "Hiking. Cycling. Paddling." about her trips in Europe, "Weite Wege wandern" with her concentrated outdoor know-how and the touring guide "Auf 25 Wegen um die Welt" were on the Spiegel bestseller list for months.
