Chanson-Konzert: Katharine Mehrling singt Piaf (mit Band)

When Katharine Mehrling begins to sing Piaf's chansons, it almost takes your breath away, so much has Mehrling internalized Piaf and yet she always remains herself.

With her unmistakable "slightly smoky voice with a hint of absinthe" (RBB Kultur), Katharine Mehrling combines Parisian charm and Berlin chutzpah.

"I lived in Paris for a while and followed in Piaf's footsteps, walked along her streets, talked to people who knew her, inhaled the Parisian attitude to life and immersed myself in the world of her chansons," reveals Katharine Mehrling.

She embodied Piaf in three different theater productions in a play with music and dedicated several CDs to her, most recently the album PIAF AU BAR, released on her label MEHRlingMUSIK.

Whether the actress and singer interprets Piaf's chansons alone with accordion accompaniment, to jazz sounds with her band in the Bar jeder Vernunft or on the big stage with orchestra, the audience is at her feet.

In two gala concerts - with the orchestra of the Komische Oper and in the presence of Piaf's last composer, Charles Dumont (Non, je ne regnete rein) - she celebrated the 100th birthday of the French chanson legend at the Komische Oper Berlin.

For her breathtaking artistry and versatility, Katharine Mehrling was awarded the "Golden Curtain" audience award as Berlin's most popular actress for the 8th time in 2024

She also gives concerts internationally: in New York, Paris, London or at the Edinburgh International Festival, where she presented her Kurt Weill evening LONELY HOUSE together with Barrie Kosky at the piano

In this very personal homage to Piaf, Enrique Ugarte's orchestral arrangements of classics such as "Milord", "La vie en rose" and "Non, je ne regrette rien", as well as lesser-known Piaf chansons, lend Mehrling's interpretations a unique flair.
