A woman buys a ticket and sets a deadline: Everything is to be different this summer. She writes in her diary that she wants to put an end to the expectations that have defined her for too long. In a new city by the sea, under the blazing sun, she is looking for freedom. She doesn't want children, just sex and unconditional self-determination. But can the old simply be discarded?

The stories of the women in her family - Anna, Rosa, Ella, Viola and her mother Romy - seem to continue to have an impact on her life. What does she know of their struggles, their struggles and their resilience?

Carolin Würfel combines the fast rhythm of the present with the experiences of three generations and uncovers patterns of female life that the protagonist cannot let go of. A profound novel about the struggle for freedom and the question of whether we can really be independent.

🐾 Carolin Würfel studied history and journalism in Berlin and Istanbul. She works as a freelance author and journalist, in particular for the weekly newspaper DIE ZEIT. In 2019 she published "Ingrid Wiener and the Art of Liberation", in 2022 "Three Women Dreamed of Socialism" about the GDR writers Brigitte Reimann, Christa Wolf and Maxie Wander. Her new book will be published by Hanser Literaturverlage on March 18, 2025.

🐾 Nina Apin moderates this taz Talk and has been writing about cultural and social issues for the taz since 2005. From 2016 to 2021, she was head of the opinion section at taz.
