Calexico have spent the better part of their long career exploring the dusty musical
frontier of the American Southwest, writing unique, cinematic sounds as mysterious and grand as the arid desert landscapes that inspired them. Formed by guitarist/vocalist Joey Burns and drummer John Convertino in Tuscon, Arizona, the band earned a devoted following beginning in the late 1990s with a series of impressive albums that blurred the lines between their roots, rock and Latin influences; it was 2003's Feast of Wire that marked the duo's commercial and critical breakthrough, earning them Billboard charts and rave reviews from The Guardian to Pitchfork. In the years that followed, Calexico released eight more similarly well-received studio albums, which earned them appearances at Coachella, Bonnaroo, Glastonbury and Roskilde Festival, alongside their own acclaimed tours.
Their latest album for now, "El Mirador" (2022), stands as both a vantage point and a beacon
in the darkness. An opportunity to listen and feel within, to reflect on our connections
to the earth and to other people and hopefully light a way forward.
Even after more than two decades on tour, Calexico's music remains boundless and romantic, positive and dynamic, still looking to the horizon, searching for the next adventure. And with many musical influences from around the world, their music is often danceable and lively, and always absolutely modern and contemporary.
In 2025, Calexico return with a short and very special tour of Europe. Founding members Joey Burns and John Convertino will perform as an intimate trio and will be joined
accompanied by their longtime comrade-in-arms and trumpeter Martin Wenk. They will offer the audience
a rare and very close experience of the band's iconic Southwest and South American sounds.
