Buchpremiere: Lieblingsmärchen von H. C. Andersen illustriert von Kat Menschik

We are celebrating a premiere! Kat Menschik talks to Wolfgang Hörner about her way of reading and illustrating fairy tales by H.C. Andersen. The puppeteer Karl Huck performs scenes from "The Emperor and the Nightingale".

The Princess and the Pea, The Ugly Duckling. The names alone of the timeless stories by Danish storyteller H. C. Andersen awaken childhood memories and trigger deep emotions in us. We are fascinated and slightly creeped out by a dog with eyes the size of plates, enchanted by the song of a nightingale and deeply empathize with a girl in dire need who creates moments of happiness with her shining matches of sulphur.

Kat Menschik has chosen some very familiar favorite fairy tales, but also some unusual ones, such as The Snail and the Rose Hedge. The earliest illustrations in this volume were created when she made her first book: as a 16-year-old, she illustrated The Lighter for her mother and bound the whole thing as a book (edition: 1 copy).

In addition to this firework of illustrations spanning 40 years, this 19th volume of Favorite Books contains a puppetry version of The Nightingale as a further special feature.
