Book launch premiere:
Daniel Zylbersztajn-Lewandowski, taz.de's foreign correspondent in London since 2012, exclusively presents his two-part book series "Soll sein Schulem" (May Peace Be), which was published in January.

The books are an attempt to come to terms with his family before, during and after the Shoah. They not only tell the story of the Lewandowski family in Munich, former purveyors to the Bavarian court, but also the trauma and questions of exclusion and belonging in his own life. He himself was the victim of an anti-Semitic attack in 2022. Born in Munich in 1969, he is the son of a Jewish Shoah survivor and the daughter of someone who fled to Amsterdam after being imprisoned in Dachau.

He left Germany in 1991, like many children of survivors who grew up in post-war Germany. Despite serious experiences with racism and anti-Semitism, including in his life together with his wife from Sierra Leone - she is a descendant of people once enslaved in the Americas - he tries to stay on the thread of hope for better things.
