BETWEEN THE RHINE AND THE HAVEL
Between Rhine and Havel a cooperative exhibition project of the Bonn-Potsdam city partnership
As part of the city partnership between Bonn and Potsdam, a bilateral exhibition project was planned in 2023, the first part of which, "Fluid States", with works by the artist Ulrika Eller-Rüter, art professor at the Alanus University of Art and Design in Alfter, was presented in Potsdam in June/July 2024.
The exhibition "Bubbles" at Fabrik 45 is the second part of the project and shows paintings and sculptures by Potsdam artist Mikos Meininger.

The two artists approach the theme of "water" in different ways.
The two twin cities lend themselves as "water places", Bonn on the Rhine with the neighboring tributaries Sieg and Ahr as well as Potsdam with the Havel and its large lake landscape. "Water" as the central basis of life is at the heart of the climate crisis with extreme weather events such as flood disasters and droughts: it therefore also shapes the discourse on sustainability.

Mikos Meininger realized the "Memorial to the Potsdam Democracy Movement 1989" in Potsdam in 2020. He previously designed the Brandenburg Art Prize in 2019 and the Voltaire Prize of the University of Potsdam in 2016. In numerous series of works, he figuratively condenses life in and under water or depicts it in abstract form. At the same time, he examines the properties of the space or the environment.
Meininger sees himself as an observer of materials.
His creations in painting and sculpture are always preceded by the question: "What does the material want?" Curious about
experiences and insights, he embarks on an adventure. The imperfect is important to him.
The "bubble-style paintings" and sculptures on the theme of water form the starting point for his Bonn exhibition. His more recent sculptures are mainly made from waste paper and deliberately remain in this sustainable materiality. The Rhine and the Rhine landscape flow into the concept.
This results in interfaces with the works of Ulrika Eller-Rüter, who previously exhibited at the Kunsthaus sans titre.
