British Shorts Retrospektive: "The Hypnotic Explorations of Peter Strickland"

With feature films such as BERBERIAN SOUND STUDIO and THE DUKE OF BURGUNDY, Peter Strickland has established himself as an adventurous director with a unique voice. This hallucinatory mix of avant-garde and genre films demonstrates his appreciation for transgressive cinema and the analog film medium. The British Shorts retrospective "The Hypnotic Explorations of Peter Strickland" traces his journey as a filmmaker. From the early Super 8 films he made as a teenager, to the experimental 16mm shorts and music videos throughout his career, the program explores the hypnotic worlds he captured on film. The short films have recently been digitally restored, some from "old negatives or hard drives left in a friend's ex-spouse's apartment or in a locked garage after one of my colleagues fell in love with someone thousands of miles away," as he puts it.
