A duo concert always brings the audience particularly close to the music and the musicians. But it is rare to be as intensely captivated as with the Blumenschein-Küppers duo.
German-Brazilian singer Juliana Blumenschein and guitarist Florin Küppers create a playfulness, intimacy and wit that is infectious. With the release of their new album "In Between", they interpret a varied program of jazz from the Great American Songbook as well as great Brazilian composers.
Juliana Blumenschein's multi-faceted voice gives each song, whether in English or Portuguese, a lively depth, while she is accompanied by Florin Küppers on guitar in a versatile and polyphonic manner. The result is honest and timeless music that celebrates the spontaneous moment of improvisation just as much as finely arranged and detailed arrangements.
But what makes the duo special is the joy and passion with which they make music together. You don't just hear it, you see it as they stand on stage and feel it in the whole room, you are right in the middle of it and part of how these timeless songs are brought to life.
