Youth culture in a Munich neighborhood 1948-1962:

The Halbstarken scene was a phenomenon of youth culture in the post-war period of the 1950s, in which aggressive young people rebelled against what they saw as the bourgeois world of adults in the land of the economic miracle.

In his illustrated lecture, the speaker Franz Schröther from the Geschichtswerkstatt Neuhausen sheds light on historical facts and backgrounds, the idols and leading figures of the young people and especially the situation in Neuhausen with the infamous "Rio-Blasn" and the legendary dance club "Kolibri" in Donnersbergerstraße. He reports on the meeting places of the youth, their music, clothing and their own youth language.

The lecture is an accompanying event to the photo exhibition of the same name from March 18 to May 17, 2025.

The Geschichtswerkstatt Neuhausen e.V. has set itself the task of critically examining the history of the district. The volunteer "historians" organize lectures, guided tours of the district, exhibitions, publish their own books and the magazine "Neuhauser Werkstatt-Nachrichten", which is published twice a year. The chairman of the association is Franz Schröther, who was born and raised in Neuhausen in 1946 and is a profound expert on the history of Munich's 9th district, including Neuhausen, Nymphenburg and Gern.

In May 1945, the end of the Second World War set a new course in politics and society that still influences the way we live together today. The program "1945-2025 Zero Hour? How we became what we are." of the Munich Cultural Department would like to commemorate this with an extensive program of events.
