With their debut album "Shake Well", Hamburg band BILBAO provide the ultimate soundtrack for shaking everyday life and fears, routines and phlegm out of body and soul. everything is allowed to vibrate again. The ten songs between indie and pop beguile with their ultra-light complexity. With complex, sophisticated rhythms, incredibly captivating melodies and dynamically pulsating arrangements.

"Shake Well" is both the band's philosophy of life and their artistic approach. The fact that all the details and ideas on the album come together in such a catchy way is down to the special BILBAO mix. Bassist and mastermind Jannes has already worked with Samy Deluxe, Haiyti and Megaloh under his hip-hop pseudonym Jomo. Guitarist Robin moves in the lively border area from garage rock to electro and is also responsible for the artwork from the album cover to the video production. Drummer Jan has his roots in post-rock, while singer Léon feels at home in folk and indie rock. Shaken well, all these ingredients create a cocktail with a very unique and very special taste. Fresh and fruity, with subtle bitter notes. The result: a delightful buzz.

A night of partying at the Reeperbahn Festival 2019 provided the initial spark to found BILBAO. And just one year later, the band had already played twice at the renowned Hamburg club festival. However, they got to know each other earlier. In the scene, at university. No wonder, as BILBAO brings together four personalities who have each played different instruments since childhood. And who have been permanently involved in bands and projects since their youth. Music nerds in the very best sense. "We are a very productive band that tries out a lot. We have up to 70 versions of some
up to 70 versions of some songs," says Robin about the creation of the album, which was produced in Jannes' bedroom studio and in Hamburg's Boogie Park Studio. BILBAO is imbued with a professional DIY spirit, which also includes poster art and T-shirt prints. The focus, however, is on the music. An organic synthesis of digital and analog - from sophisticated sampling and surging synthesizers to a playful selection of rhythm instruments such as darbukas, shakers and congas.

BILBAO's driving signature sound unfolds in the most beautiful way in the opener: In "Ok Bye ", adrenaline and departure meet drifting indie pop and Afrobeat borrowings. With catchy guitars, "Get Up!" calls for a shared escape from the 9 to 5 doldrums, while "Mojito " celebrates the allure of a club night with flickering electronica. How much can life be savored without the hunt for the next moment of happiness becoming stale or even leading to (self-)destruction? This question always resonates with BILBAO. The single "Parasols" deals with the changing relationship between personal hedonism and global development. "Mama told me: get out of the sun / but I wanna tan like everyone," sings Léon in shimmering high notes. A heat dream of a song that is perfect for dancing to. And in which critical content subtly shimmers through. "We are very concerned about climate change," says the singer. "We want to incorporate the topic into our art. But without moderation. Just in the BILBAO way."
