Big City Life – eine riesige Enttäuschung?

In the organizer's words:

Young people and the big city

The promise of the big city attracts young people in particular to metropolitan areas. But they are often disappointed when the opposite of what they hoped for happens. Is the big city more illusion than reality? As part of the "Your emotional city" project, we are discussing with you how we can shape cities in the future so that the promises of freedom, encounters and participation can be fulfilled.

Away from the village, into the city - young people in particular are drawn to the big cities. They expect exciting leisure activities, inspiring exchanges and individual development. However, they often face queues when looking for accommodation and interim rents, long commutes, anonymity, loneliness and poor air quality. Stress and the fear of missing out included.

Is the big city ultimately one thing above all - a big disappointment? Or, despite all this, an enrichment? How can we design cities in the future so that they better fulfill their promise of freedom, encounters and participation?

With our citizen science project "Your emotional city", we are placing a special focus on the well-being of young city dwellers. Discuss with us and our experts as part of this project what the city of tomorrow should look like from the perspective of young people. Design your urban dream world with us and think about how we could realize it.

This event is part of the citizen science project "Deine emotionale Stadt" (Your Emotional City ) - a joint project of the Interdisziplinäres Forum Neurourbanistik e.V., Charité - Universitätsmedizin Berlin, Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin and Futurium - Haus der Zukünfte.

In the "Your emotional city" project, we want to work with you to decode the feelings of citizens on specific streets, squares, in neighborhoods and parks and gain insights for cities in general. Together we will discover what makes cities of the future places worth living in. Find out all about the project here.
