Biedermann und die Brandstifter

In the organizer's words:

What if we do not recognize a danger to ourselves and society, even though we encounter it every day? When we lull ourselves to sleep with naïve trust and tolerance and do not see the "arsonists", do not want to acknowledge them? And just when there is danger to life and limb and our personal resistance is urgently needed?

In Max Frisch's ludicrous parable without a lesson, the danger for Mr. and Mrs. Biedermann is obvious and the bitter end is foreseeable. And because they don't want to admit it themselves, it comes as it must. "Woe to us! Woe to us! Woe to us!" are the last lamenting words in the play.

Who are the "arsonists" that the Biedermanns bring into their home? How and with what do they threaten their existence, their future? And, if the Biedermanns are representative of us, the so-called middle of society, do we take our threats seriously - and are we courageous enough to confront them?
