Berlin, you gray, dirty city of the black-can-wearing mindset. So dreary in winter. So restless in summer. Where is your love of guitars amongst all your NeoRap, electronic beats, new Neue (neue?) Deutsche Welle and bubblegum shoegaze pop (saymanso?)? Didn't we pay for our first kickflip attempts in the early 2000s with painful falls onto our studded belts? Didn't we want to be punk in a different way than the people in the strange 80s documentary on public television, with canned beer, sugar water in our hair and safety pins in our ears? Having something to say and having fun? But where is the music, oh the music! We need more six-stringers on the stages of this city again. In July 2025, we want to start establishing BERLIN BREAKOUT as an independent music festival that celebrates energetic subcultural and countercultural music and can develop into a community meeting place. The aim is always to be open, diverse and progressive and to provide a space for up-and-coming and established bands and artists from the hardcore and punk scene. As an event location, the RAW grounds probably stand for artistic diversity, DIY, subculture and ambitious support for the local scenes like no other place in Berlin. The following bands have been confirmed for the first edition in July:

As long as there are bands like SUPERBLOOM from Brooklyn, rock has not yet breathed its last. With feverish and raw sounds that are instantly catchy, they are something of a superband by vocation who have said goodbye to full-time careers in other bands. Here, the music is still overdriven and booming.

SPITE HOUSE are one of those bands that formed intuitively and out of a spontaneous urge to play their instruments. In the best emocore style, they transform emotions into music without losing sight of their musical role models.

ANXIOUS, deeply rooted in the history of hardcore and midwest emo, will also be performing, with musical influences that extend far beyond these genre boundaries. Crisp 90s guitar rock meets layered 60s bop-like harmonies and lyrics about the frustrations of growing up and moving away from the things that used to ground you.

Some of the most passionate and soulful voices in hardcore come from New England, like LOVE LETTER, featuring ex-Defeater guitarist Jay Maas. Warning and accusation, as so often in hardcore, dominate the band's sounds as much as anger and persistence. There is a remarkable freedom and drive in the music, pushing the boundaries of where soulful and heavy music can go with every note and every word.

PHANTOM BAY, who formed in Bremen during the pandemic and are deeply rooted in the hardcore and punk scene, where all members were active in various projects, could almost be considered local heroes.

LOCAL SUPPORT are genuine Berliners who say they sound as if Negative Approach and Minor Threat had formed a new band in Neukölln.

SPACED from Buffalo have also gone from secret project to international breakthrough in a very short space of time after the pandemic. We open our arms to hardcore with a lot of groove and a good dose of attitude.

SHOOTING DAGGERS from the heart of the burgeoning British hardcore scene have recently been celebrated not only by critics in Metal Hammer, Fader, Kerrang and Stereogum. The trio continues to go from strength to strength, and their live shows have made them an absolute must-see in the scene.

STAND STILL and SUNLINER will also be at the BERLIN BREAKOUT. More bands are to follow!

Let's open up spaces again for the DIY culture familiar from hardcore. Let's put guitars back on the map. On July 5th on the RAW grounds!

Wheelchair users please use the appropriate ticket. Most venues are barrier-free accessible. Severely disabled people who are entitled to a free companion can show us their B-card at the entrance and can then take the accompanying person with them without a ticket.
