What are the mountains for us? Adventure playground, amphitheater, business model or home? Every year, more and more people flock to the hostile climes above 3,000 meters above sea level. Ski slopes are expanding, glaciers are retreating. While the high mountains are becoming ever more accessible, the rock is literally crumbling under our hiking boots. Will a critical rethink come in time? Scientists, ski lift operators, philosophers, artists and mountaineers are asking what the future holds for the Alpine region. One thing is certain: the mountains would do just fine if it weren't for the people.
