BEFLÜGELNDES FIEBER. Jugendstil im Grassi

In the organizer's words:

Precious materials, sensual lines and iridescent lighting - the variety of designs used by Art Nouveau artists knew almost no bounds. They were not interested in overabundance, but in turning away from overloaded historicism. Something new had to be found! Artists around 1900 drew on the forms and colors of nature. Whether "Jugendstil" or "Art Nouveau" - the whole of Europe was gripped by an "inspiring fever". Their works were offered for sale at world and trade exhibitions and in department stores. Many pieces came to the Leipzig Museum at that time. But even today, the collection continues to grow through donations. Many of the approximately 350 objects on display come from the collection of the Pese couple from Nuremberg. Additions come from other donations, whereby the focus is explicitly not on the "old familiar", but on additions from the last thirty years that have rarely or never been presented to the public.
