There are rappers you're always a little scared of when they're on stage. And there are rappers who put a big grin on everyone's face. Canadian BBNO$ belongs to the second category. And if you're wondering how the heck you actually pronounce this strange string of letters and characters, BBNO$ will kindly help you get started. He calls his European tour simply the way you pronounce his stage name: Baby No Money. His numerous fans - around four million follow him on TikTok alone - know this, of course.

However, reducing Alexander Leon Gumuchian, his real name, to the role of rapper is actually not enough. His current single "meant to be", for example, sounds more like a laid-back indie anthem, while his hit "Lalala" is a weird bastard of trap humming, acoustic guitar folk and hip-hop. BBNO$ told the music magazine "Spin" last year: "What makes me really happy is releasing new music that I can surprise people with. I just love that vodoo shit in the studio! I love it when the music starts to flow in a new way and suddenly sounds completely different. I'm constantly asking myself: how can I remix everything I've learned along the way to create a song that's even better?"

The terms "rapper" or even "musician" only apply to two thirds of his career, however, because BBNO$'sfame stems not only from his music, but also from his digital entertainment value. Especially on TikTok, you can't stop grinning after scrolling through his sometimes charming, sometimes nonsensical, sometimes musical videos for a while. "Lalala" also went viral on TikTok and is expected to reach the impressive figure of one billion Spotify streams in the next few weeks. His track "Edamame" also went through the roof on socials first.

However, it would be just as unfair to reduce BBNO$ to his virtual or quantifiable success. Anyone who experienced the Canadian at his last tour stop in Germany saw a charismatic entertainer who had the audience in the bag after the first few songs and announcements. This will be no different at his shows in Cologne and Berlin in May.
