In the organizer's words:

by Ivana Sokola

Sisters Minka and Magda live in the so-called "East" of Europe. Apart from the occasional tourist in summer, there is little going on there - the two of them are killing time. In a present that seems to go round in circles, they feel unnoticed and left behind. But then their cousin suddenly appears in front of them with the body of his father. Having emigrated a long time ago, his uncle spent his life in the "North". Now his son wants to fulfill the deceased's last wish and bury him in his homeland. Minka is against this: she does not want to grant him a final resting place in his native soil. Magda, however, is in favor of a funeral and reconciliation. With the body in their luggage, the two sisters set off on an extraordinary journey.

The author Ivana Sokola writes in rhythmic and visually powerful language about kinship and belonging, class and envy, becoming a stranger and searching for a home and asks about a vision of the future in the ruins of the early 21st century. Director Jana Vetten continues her work with Ivana Sokola's theater texts and presents BALKAN DRIFT to Cologne audiences for the first time.

With the voice of Katharina Schmalenberg.
