Bacao Rhythm & Steel Band, the legendary steel pan band from Hamburg, has already gained a cult following worldwide. With a string of classic 7 "s and three critically acclaimed albums, they have set the bar high for themselves. They cover songs from a variety of genres, from mega hits to underground songs, and make them their own with their unique approach to traditional Trinidad and Tobago steel pan.
While the appeal of listening to them is partly to find out what songs they cover, it's equally fascinating to see what original tunes they've cooked up. Original compositions such as "In The Crosshairs", "Grilled" or "Treasure Quest" from the album BRSB show that the term "cover band" cannot fit Bacao. Still, in the tradition of steel pan music, they dare to tackle a number of hits, such as 50 Cent's "How We Do", Dr. Dre & Snoop Dogg's "Nuthin But A G Thang" and Tupac's "Got My Mind Made Up", all of which take on a new energy and prove more than suitable for the BRSB steel treatment. With their cover of Claudja Barry's disco classic "Love For The Sake Of Love", Bacao add another certified dance floor filler to their resume, turning it into a dubbed out affair and even changing the title to "Love For The Sake Of Dub".
