Program 20.Mar.2025
Ions (charged particles) play a central role in numerous astrophysical processes. Laboratory studies with ion traps provide precise reference data that are essential for the interpretation of astronomical observations. The presentation introduces the role of ions, their spectral "fingerprints" and the contribution of laboratory studies to the analysis of the universe.
This talk will be about some of the many women in Astrophysics whose contributions were overlooked or under-credited over the years, how they changed our view of the cosmos, and their legacy.

The Fred young submm telescope is on it's way to Chile. The telescope was designed and built in Germany. In this talk I will cover telescope design, it's assembly and testing in Germany and it's journey to 5600m in northern Chile.

Program 23.Jan.2025
The cosmic background radiation is often referred to as the "baby photo" of the universe. In this lecture, we will take a journey back almost 14 billion years to understand how this radiation was created and what it tells us today about the composition of the universe. We will look at how astronomers and physicists have used this "snapshot" to determine the proportions of normal matter, dark matter and dark energy and the role these mysterious components play in the evolution of the universe.
Astronomy is often referred to as the first science of humankind. In this talk we will explore a selection of critical steps in the development
of this fascinating discipline, from the ancient world up to modernity.

Program 14.Nov.2024
A brief history of data manipulation in science, especially in physics (and astronomy)
We still have so much to learn about our own Galactic Center, the supermassive black hole, the mysterious collection of dust, and the paradox of youth! The talk will not answer all these questions but will provide an overview of the core of our own galaxy.
