„Assad ist weg, Syrien ist frei“

The fighters of Hayat Tahrir al Sham (HTS) have overthrown the regime of Bashar al Assad in Syria and taken power.

How did this come about? Will the new rulers - who are still on the United Nations' terror list for the most serious human rights crimes - set the course for a permanently free Syria that includes the various social, ethnic and religious groups?

Western delegations, including the German government, which have been meeting with HTS, want to cooperate with the organization. And what does the population want?

Karin Leukefeld, a freelance journalist, works for German-language media in Germany, Luxembourg, Austria and Switzerland. She has been in Lebanon and Syria since November, reporting on the war in Lebanon and following the change of power in Syria. She has been reporting from the region for years on the effects of international politics in the region. She will describe her personal impressions, explain the background and report on people's everyday lives, problems and hopes.
