Ari Benjamin Meyers – Always Rehearsing

Trained as a composer and opera conductor, Ari Benjamin Meyers works at the interface between the visual arts and music. He pushes the boundaries of both disciplines by rethinking the production, performance and reception habits of contemporary music. Exhibition venues and public spaces become places of sound. Perfection, mastery and uniqueness are replaced by an open process, the dissolution of hierarchies and shared learning.

Rehearsal has a special role to play here: for Ari Benjamin Meyers, it is an instrument with which relationships between people as well as between people and the world can be experienced, examined and shaped.

Under the title Always Rehearsing, new and existing works by the American artist can be seen, sung, played and heard at the Kunsthalle Mainz. What does "endless rehearsing" mean and how does it affect us? These are questions that accompany the exhibition and which visitors are invited to actively participate in answering.

During the exhibition, the Kunsthalle Mainz will become the first place where users of the Zollhafen can get to know each other, meet regularly and exchange ideas. Together with singing teacher Barbara Arneke, Ari Benjamin Meyers founds a choir and develops a new musical work with its members: THE NOTIONAL ANTHEM, NR. 1: DER ZOLLHAFEN CHOR.
