Annett Gröschner: Schwebende Lasten

In the organizer's words:

The world changed in the 20th century, several times over. A portrait from the perspective of an ordinary woman from East Germany - Annett Gröschner in the taz Talk at the Leipzig Book Fair.

Hanna Krause's story tells the story of a woman who experienced the 20th century in all its ups and downs - with an intensity and poetry that can only come from a literary confrontation with reality.

Hanna starts out as a flower arranger and later becomes a crane operator in a heavy engineering company in Magdeburg. Her life spans two world wars, revolutions, dictatorships and democracies. She experiences the end of her flower store, the birth of six children, two of whom die before her, and the view from her crane of the hustle and bustle of the people deep below her. Despite all the upheavals, she remains true to her credo: stay decent.

In this novel, author Annett Gröschner interweaves Hanna's life story with the history of the industrial age, giving a voice to those who are often overlooked. It is a tribute to the silent heroines of the East and a portrait of an incomprehensible century from the perspective of an ordinary woman.
