The Jazz Journalists Association has named her Clarinetist of the Year nine times, in addition to Grammy nominations, Downbeat Clarinet of the Year and the Grand Prix of the NorthSeaJazz Festival. Paquito D'Rivera himself described her as "one of the best who ever played this instrument". In her Quartetinho band, she is accompanied by the Israeli bassist Tal Mashiach, the Brazilian pianist/accordionist Vitor Gonçalves and the American vibraphonist James Shipp (all members of her celebrated Tentet). The four musicians share a common love of the Brazilian Songbook. They tell musical stories by Cohen, Mashiach and Shipp and play pieces by the great masters Antonio Carlos Jobim, Egberto Gismonti and many others. The result is boundlessly melodic and lyrical, with a wide range of timbres and subtle details of orchestration.

Dutch bass clarinettist Fie Schouten is professor of bass clarinet and contemporary music at the Prins Claus Conservatorium in Groningen. She is one of the outstanding international interpreters of the works of Karlheinz Stockhausen, as documented in numerous collaborations with Ensemble Musikfabrik, for example. VOSTOK Remote Islands, the debut album by the trio Schouten, Courtois Janssen (clarinets, cello, keys) is based on the bestseller "Atlas of Remote Islands" by Judith Schalansky. Each piece represents a separate island, which is explored carefully and improvisationally. As a listener, you become part of the journey of discovery. Schalansky writes about islands that she has never visited and probably never will. Imagination and research nevertheless give her access to distant worlds. The library, Schalansky's place of discovery of the unknown and the other, opens up fantastic possibilities for her that go far beyond the physical constraints of travel. Not with "colonialist zeal", she writes in the introduction, but with her "longing" she wants to take possession of the islands.
