America – Live-Hörspiel

In the organizer's words:

"...I let one hand slip into my underpants,
I closed my eyes
and saw America."

A young man sits in the bathroom and discovers America. In a magazine. In a magazine with naked male bodies. An America that is different. Much more than just a word. Much more than just a continent.

America. That is the longing. The longing for other men's bodies. The longing to be touched. The longing for understanding, for affection, for relationship. For the protagonist of Giorgio Ferretti's play, the discovery of America is the starting point for an emotional journey in search of his own identity. With an open heart, this speaking ego plunges into the world, tracing his sexual identity as well as an (emotional) home.

The protagonist faces hostility from the outside, questions his innermost self and explores his place of longing in togetherness and at the other end of an ocean. He questions the facets of his belonging: to a country, to a mentality, to a person, in eroticism, excitement and emotion.

With lyrical rhythm, Ferretti provides insight into a self that confronts the self. Sometimes insecure, sometimes desperate, sometimes passionate, sometimes loving, but always with curious verve, the main character takes us with her - into her personal America.
