Alexandra Waierstall: HEART MOMENT – An Interlude for Düsseldorf

A gentle sigh that releases the moment into eternity. A gaze into the void that notices this one place where everything could now end. A movement that correlates with another, opening the space in several directions at once, as if by chance, formulating an inconspicuous invitation.
In complex times of irresolvable contradictions, worry and mistrust, HEART MOMENT is an invitation to experience generosity as physical conversation, tender negotiation and continuous modulation of human relationships. The work operates with time as a physical category and finds solace in the vague sense of tides that wash through and connect bodies.
HEART M OMENT is a unique creation for a number of different cities that are significant to choreographer Alexandra Waierstall. Each work becomes an edition of sorts, a bespoke work for and with each location, developed in collaboration with a selected venue in each city, local professional dancers and collaborators to create a specific interlude.
As a choreographer, Alexandra Waierstall has found finely tuned poetic ways to confront us with seemingly contradictory emotions. This is done through continuous collaboration with an impressive and dynamic range of finely tuned dancers against a backdrop of Volker Bertelmann's vibrant music and Caty Olive's sophisticated lighting designs. The work reflects the modular character and democratic principles of Rita McBride's sculpture Arena. The monumental sculpture serves as the basis and inspiration for the work, but is absent from the performance.

The artist and choreographer Alexandra Waierstall was part of the first generation of Factory Artists at tanzhaus nrw from 2014 - 2016. She grew up in Cyprus and lives in Düsseldorf. Her works have been shown internationally in theaters, museums, galleries and public spaces. STAGES INTO THE NOW - A Solo for Scott Jennings recently premiered at tanzhaus nrw in 2023.
