Director: Svitlana Lishchynska
Language: OmeU (Ukrainian, German with English subtitles)
Svitlana, the director and protagonist of the film, grew up in Mariupol during the Soviet era, when all individuality was suppressed. Even years after moving to Kyiv and living in independent Ukraine, she is still searching for a clear identity. There are four generations of women in her family and each generation grew up under different political conditions. 10 days before the Russian invasion, the family gathers in Kyiv to celebrate little Stefania's birthday. No one has returned to Mariupol. Instead of the destroyed house in their hometown, there is a void that now has to be filled with a lot of reflection on what is painful and important.
The film will be followed by a discussion with director Svitlana Lishchynska and cultural scientist Mariam Naiem.
