Companions of German Romanticism

Carl Loewe and Richard Strauss - two composers who, despite their different musical languages, cultivated a special affinity with poetry, their settings create a space in which stories and moods unfold in an unmistakable way.

Loewe, who was regarded as the "ballad king" of his native Pomerania, is, alongside Franz Schubert, the companion who led the art form "Lied" from the Classical period into the Romantic era. Strauss, on the other hand, as a representative of late Romanticism, stands for the transition to modernism, which he depicts like no other in his musical language.

In this personal program, the two Heidelberg Kammersänger Wilfried Staber (bass) and Winfrid Mikus (tenor) present a subtle dialogue between fine tonal language and emotional depth, accompanied on the piano by Nanami Yamane.
