Hike on the Staffelsee
Do you want to cover kilometers, enjoy mountain and lake views and, for a change, do so without having to climb any hills? We recommend a circular hike around the Staffelsee in the picturesque "blue country".
Easy journey by train
Two further plus points: the train ride from Munich Central Station to Uffing, where your tour starts, takes just 50 minutes. And the beer garden, which is part of the excursion, has one of the most beautiful views you can find in the area.
Two route options
You get off in Uffing and can decide:
1. walk the entire loop around the lake, covering a good 22 km. To do this, walk next to the railroad line until the next crossing to the south in the direction of Rieden.
2. take a boat across the lake to Murnau-Achele - as we did - and walk the remaining 13 km (approx. 2.5 hours) back around the Staffelsee.
To do this, you walk about 30 minutes from the train station through the small, dreamy village to the starting point, the "Seerestaurant zum Alpenblick". In addition to a somewhat finer restaurant, this also offers a beer garden. Of course, you could also stop off at the beginning, but everything tastes even better after a hike.
The landing stage is located directly at the beer garden. It's best to check the MS Seehausen timetable from home and plan your departure accordingly. We definitely enjoyed the boat trip, as the Staffelsee is surrounded by nature and not as busy as other lakes. When you look out over the small islands from the boat and watch the many people with their boats and stand-up paddles in between, you really want to jump straight into the water. We have definitely made that our plan for our next visit or the coming summer!
Once off the boat, follow the signs for the Seerundweg trail. The path is very varied: while you start out walking directly along the lakeshore, you cross part of the Staffelsee moor in the middle of the path (don't worry - there are normal paths. Just make sure you don't leave them so that you don't end up in the wet). In between, you move away from the lake, but this doesn't make it any less idyllic and you are rewarded with mountain views. You'll also pass through the forest for a while and, if you're lucky, you'll come across cows towards the end.
After a successful hike, take a seat in the beer garden and enjoy the view of the mountains once again before heading back. There is also a nice entry point into the water where you can sunbathe and swim. You can also discover other bathing spots along the route, for example at the Uffing municipal swimming pool. The Staffelsee offers comparatively warm water with mild, peaty water.
The excursion is definitely not just for summer. Autumnal atmosphere or blossoming trees in spring are certainly also great to experience there. Have fun!
