Bremen's best swimming lakes in and around Bremen
According to tradition and history, a Hanseatic city like Bremen has always had a connection to the water. Back then, the Weser belonged to the Hanseatic League, an interest group for seafaring merchants, and is as much a part of the city as SV Werder Bremen belongs to the Bundesliga. 💚🤍
Accordingly, Bremen has a certain expertise when it comes to the cool water. Especially in the warm summer months, many Bremen residents are drawn to the numerous lakes and rivers in the area. We would like to introduce you to some of them today. 🤽♀️
So if you're looking to cool off in hot temperatures, you don't have to head to the coast. Bremen and the surrounding area offer a variety of bathing opportunities that are perfect for a relaxing day by the water. 🍉
What to think about solltest🤷♀️:
Before we introduce you to the individual bathing lakes, however, there are a few things we would like to remind you of before you set off on your bathing day.
Bathing water quality: Find out in advance about the current water quality of the respective bathing waters. 💧
Safety: Only swim at designated bathing areas and follow the safety instructions.
Environment: Make sure you don't leave any garbage behind and protect nature. 🚮
Sun protection: Don't forget to use plenty of sunscreen and wear a hat. 🌞
Food: Pack a picnic and enjoy your time by the water. 🍇🍏
Fun and games: Take a book, a frisbee or a ball with you to keep yourself occupied by the water. 📖
Once you've worked through this checklist, nothing stands in the way of your swimming pleasure. So find your swimming trunks, swimsuit or bikini and scroll down to find out about Bremen's best swimming spots.
Werdersee
Bremen's most popular swimming destination is the Werdersee. Far away from the sometimes dangerous currents of the Weser, you can set up camp here in numerous places and sunbathing areas and enjoy a wonderful time in the cool water. 😁
Stadionbad
You will find the Stadionbad directly adjacent to the world-famous Weser Stadium. With large slides, high diving boards and plenty of space to swim and relax, the Stadionbad is a true Bremen institution.
Sportparksee Grambke
28719 Bremen
Bremen's hotspot for water sports is Sportparksee Grambke. In addition to plenty of water, you will find sailing, canoeing, fishing, rowing and diving. 🚣♂️
Der Sodenmattsee
28259 Bremen
Possibly my personal favorite lake in Bremen, as there is an area not far from the cool water where dogs can be kept on a lead all year round. Apart from that, the Sodenmattsee offers excellent water quality and a whole lot of greenery around it. Everything you need to really switch off again. 🐶
Der Achterdieksee
28355 Bremen
The Achterdieksee offers bathing fun for young and old. With good water quality and a wide range of nature, games and fun, you are sure to have a great time here. You can even fire up the barbecue and feast at specially designated spots on the lake. 🥓
Grambker See
A place where childhood memories can be made. A small bathing lake perfect for swimming and soaking up the sun. Thanks to the snack bar, you can also satisfy your hunger in between. But be careful: after eating, you don't go straight back into the water.
Der Stadtwald-/ Unisee
28359 Bremen
The Stadtwald or Unisee has always been a popular destination for all Bremen residents. As well as being a beautiful bathing lake, it's a great place to sizzle in the sun (always use sunscreen!), but also offers plenty of opportunities to get active in the water. The keywords here are stand-up paddling or canoeing. 🏄♀️
Café Sand
Of course, Café Sand itself is not a place for swimming. However, you can cool off here and here you will find a section of the Weser that can be swum in. Be careful though, as the Weser can always be full of surprises. ☕
Die Rottkuhle
Bremen's smallest bathing lake could also be described by malicious tongues as just a pond. Nevertheless, the mantra here is: small but mighty! Even if this bathing lake doesn't boast majestic dimensions, it still has all the things you could need for a nice summer's day. You kind of get outdoor pool vibes here, but as a lake. 🦆
Der Waller Feldmarksee
28237 Bremen
The perfect destination for families in Bremen. With the Waller Feldmarksee, you will find plenty of space inside and outside the water. Numerous play equipment along the shore will keep children happy, while the lake itself offers plenty of space for water sports.
Der Bultensee
28325 Bremen
Welcome to one of Bremen's smallest bathing lakes. Here you should rely on your own nose to avoid possible contact with blue-green algae. It can be recognized by its distinctive smell. 👃
Der Mahndorfer See
28307 Bremen
There is plenty of lake here for swimming, splashing around and even diving. The lake is 20 hectares in size and up to 15 meters deep. There is also a literal deep dive. 🤿
