The Journey called Life.

Amsterdam based composer and pianist Muriël Bostdorp plays the piano with the beauty of melancholy. Influenced by nature and everyday life, she takes you back to your inner senses. Without words she guides you to all kinds of dreamy spaces.

“The chords that I hear and choose always have some kind of melancholy in them. I think it’s part of who I am. Playing the piano, composing music is my way of going through life.”

Where the story started.

From a very young age Muriël knew she wanted to become a pianist. “Playing the piano is just who I am, and what I always wanted to do.” As a little girl she was gifted with the talent that she could play a song by ear on her keyboard. But it wasn’t until her 16th birthday that she took her first piano lesson. With great success; only two years later she had her first classical performance at the Princess Christina Concours.

Now, with the age of 34 yo she composed three albums and 6 EP’s and performed at several musical events.

Inspired by nature and life.

The surreal beauty of moving clouds were an inspiration for the song ‘Danse Des Nuages’. For the song ‘Karersee’ Muriël was inspired by nature as well. “I was in such an unbelievable beautiful place that I could connect myself with the elements. The blue lake, the green trees, the rocks... I could hear the composition of the music in my head. It was just there.”

Also her experiences in life are a source of inspiration. She fell in love, with a magical moment and with the woman she laid down with in the meadow, looking at the trees. The intense feeling of confusion at that very moment, and the ‘knowing that she would lose a part of her life and welcoming someone at the very same time too’ were translated into the song ‘Lost in the right direction’.

Style as an artist.

Muriël is always open to explore herself as an artist and her style can be described best as contemporary, neoclassical, modern. She touches the chords in her own authentic style, once described by an reviewist as ‘a style that flows as effortlessly as water’ (Travelogue 2018).

Whatever ends, also begins.

You can say that Muriël plays the piano and composes music to cope with life, to deal with it, to truly live it. By listening to her music, Muriël hopes to move you, make you feel relaxed and at peace.
